Myth no 4: Presence of lump indicates breast cancer: A common misconception about breast cancer is that it always has a lump. Breast cancer is indicated if you feel a lump or growth around your breast.However, this is untrue—not every lump is associated with breast cancer. It is surgically excisable. In most cases, a mammography test is recommended for additional confirmation. Myth no 5: Pain in breast is due to breast cancer Pain in breast in usually linked with breast cancer, which is not true. Pain in breast can be due to any injury, menstrual cycle, ill-fitting bra, use of contraceptives and obesity. If there is excessive pain radiating in whole breast it can be matter of concern and you should regularly visit healthcare physician. But to link the breast pain due to any other cause, with breast cancer is myth. And in majority of breast cancer cases reported, it is painless. The Bottom Line: There are many causes of breast problems like breast discharge, lump appearance and changes in breast but every other symptom does not indicate it as breast cancer. So, one must be able to differentiate between myths and facts. Females should continuously visit general physician for routine breast checkup to prevent any serious condition in future.
